The Guardian Angels Story
Guardian Angels of Elk River was founded in 1962 under the sponsorship of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church of Elk River in cooperation with Elk River’s business leaders and medical community, with an aim to serve the older population of Elk River and surrounding communities.
Guardian Angels Care Center (originally called the Elk River Nursing Home) opened its 60-bed nursing facility in November of 1965. In 1973, the addition of 60 more beds provided a total of 120 beds with skilled nursing services. Over the years, the Guardian Angels Care Center has become one of the most highly regarded homes for seniors in the area and set the stage for the success of Guardian Angels Senior Services, a faith-based, nonprofit senior care organization.
In 1996, we broke ground to build By The Lake Community living for assisted living and memory care and it opened in 1999. Pullman Place Cooperative opened in 2005. Transitional Care Units (TCU) were added in 2007 to enhance the Care Center. Engel Haus, located in Albertville, MN, opened in 2014, and offers independent living, assisted living, and memory care. Our newest location, Riverview Landing, opened in 2018, and is located on the Mississippi River in Otsego and provides senior living, assisted living, memory care and wellness center.
Since the beginning, we have strived to realize our mission of providing exceptional health care, housing, and supportive services to seniors and their families in the spirit of Christ’s love. Today, we serve more than 3,000 individuals and their families each year.
